Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum

Our curriculum intends to ensure that every child is considered a competent learner who, with appropriate nurturing support, can become resilient, capable and self-assured.

We place high importance on a positive and fun start to school for our youngest learners. Children enter our KG-1 to Grade-12 program of learning at four years of age and we wrap care and comfort around each child as they begin their exciting learning journey of discovery at BIS Ajman.

Kindergarten 1 & Kindergarten 2

This is the time when children start to develop increasing independence. They are forming new friendships with their peers although their relationship with their primary caregivers is still crucial and our teachers ensure warmth and positivity is wrapped around children.

Our KG curriculum focuses on reading, writing, and mathematics to give students a positive foundation for their educational journey at BIS Ajman. We also encourage pupils to stay physically active and learn skills such as balance and coordination as they develop gross and fine motor skills.

Communication and Language

Communication and language development involve giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Personal, social and emotional development involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others, inform positive relationships and develop respect for others, develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings and to have confidence in their abilities.

Physical development

Physical development involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity and to make healthy choices in relation to food.

Literacy

Literacy development is to link sounds and letters and begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Mathematics

Mathematics involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces and measure.

Expressive Arts and Design

Expressive arts and design involve enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities.

Arabic Language

Arabic skills include listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and presenting in Arabic. Real experiences with vocabulary, conversation and early letter forming produce confident children who are able to communicate in both English and Arabic.

Understanding of the World

Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
